At the March 27th, 2014 meeting of the
Staten Island Vicariate, the subject of
substance abuse on Staten Island was the
principle topic.  Congressman Michael
Grimm, Adrienne Abbate (Project Director,
Tackling Youth Substance Abuse) and Luke
Nosta (Director, Camelot) made
presentations on the serious abuse problem
on Staten Island.

We'd like to connect with you!
The Archdiocese of New York has provided all of its parishes a great new program
to allow us to communicate with you in a more efficient manner.  Get important updates
from the parish and the Archdiocese in a timely and convenient manner.  This new program,
called “Flocknote”, allows you to choose what information you'd like to receive via email
and/or text messaging.  Your information will be kept confidential and will be secured with
advanced encryption and storage standards.  You can also unsubscribe any time.

Many of you have subscribed to St. Margaret Mary’s electronic bulletin (E-Bulletin) over
the last 2 years and received timely and informative announcements.  Well, “Flocknote” is
similar to our E-Bulletin.  It also has the added ability to send electronic text messages to
text-enabled phones and provides a more efficient administration procedure.  To take
advantage of these great new features, we will be replacing our E-Bulletin with “Flocknote”.
The 130 subscribers to our E-Bulletin have been automatically transferred into “Flocknote”.
You may have already received a “Welcome” message.

For those of you who aren’t an E-Bulletin/Flocknote subscriber we invite and encourage
you to subscribe to “Flocknote”.  Its easy to subscribe and there’s 4 ways of doing it:

(1)  Visit our Flocknote Parish site at:

Text: stmmsi to 84576 from your text-enabled phone.
  -  Text STOP to 84576 to stop text notifications at any time.
  -  Text HELP for help.
  -  There is no charge for this service, but your carrier message and data rates may apply.

The 2014-2015 Religious Education Schedules for Levels 1-4 and 5-8 are available
on the
Religious Education Page.

Please join us at a Scripture Study session.  They are held on:
-  Mondays at 7:00pm in the Dongan Hall Meeting Room, and
-  Tuesday immediately after he 9:00am Mass in the Rectory

These sessions read the scriptures for the coming week and a reflection of each reading.
There is then a round table discussion as to how the readings impact the individual.
If you are shy or don’t wish to share your experiences, that’s fine.  No one is required
to do anything other than listen to and reflect on the readings.

Over the years we have had many people attend these sessions and all walk away with a
better feeling of themselves and others. As one participant has mentioned “this is food
for our mind and soul.”

We are not Biblical Scholars, we are a group of individuals who obtain a great deal
out of the teachings from the Bible. The sessions are very informal and we even provide
coffee and treats.

Our “Family Night at the Movies” on Friday, November 14th was
a grand success.
Agnes, Edith, Margo, Gru and their Minion family provided an extraordinary evening of fun
at our ‘Family Night at the Movies’ on Friday, November 14th, 2012.  A good time was had
by all.  It was such a success we are planning on hosting another in the coming months.

We need to thank many people for making this event such a success:
-  All of our Parishioners who supported our Bake Sale which made the evening possible,
-  the Faith Formation Committee who organized and ran the evening, especially:
Joe Faeth, Cheryl Lee, Jerry LePre, Christine Marra, Dolores & Phil Sabbatino,
Frank Saulle, Cathy Torgersen and Jim Welborn.
-  To Marie Illuzzi, Laura Lamont, Lorraine LePre, Bridget, Erin & Kristen Welborn for the
delicious cupcakes and donuts,
-  Molly & Joe Funk and Staci & Pete Memmesheimer for the pizza,
-  and to all those who helped to clean up.
Most of all, to all the families who came out to enjoy an evening of entertainment with their
St. Margaret Mary’s family.
